AFSP accomplishes their work by:
- Finding better ways to prevent suicide - They fund research to improve interventions, train clinicians in suicide prevention, and advocate for policy that will save lives.
- Creating a culture that’s smart about mental health - Too many people at risk for suicide do not seek help. We need to find better ways to reach those who suffer, and encourage schools, workplaces, and communities to make mental health a priority.
- Bringing hope to those affected by suicide - Whether you’ve lost someone or are struggling with suicidal thinking—you are not alone. They bring people who have been affected by suicide out of the darkness, and give them opportunities to help others.
out of The darkness Walks
The core of the Out of the Darkness Walks, the Community Walks, created a movement. Held in hundreds of cities across the country, they give people the courage to open up about their own struggle or loss, and the platform to change our culture’s approach to mental health.
Each year individuals from Northkirk walk in the Out of the Darkness Walk. In 2020 our team had both a walking and biking team. We far exceeded our expectations by raising $4,677 for suicide prevention and mental health awareness. If you are interested in participating in the next walk, let us know!
